Rockets’ Sura sidelined following back surgery

11.23.2005

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - Houston Rockets guard Bob Sura underwent back surgery on Tuesday and could be lost for the season.

The surgery was performed to repair a ruptured disc in his back.

Sura has yet to play a game this season after averaging 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest in 61 games, including 59 starts last year, his first season with the Rockets.

Houston, which has lost four in a row, is going through a tough time with injuries. All-Star Tracy McGrady missed Tuesday’s 102-93 loss to the Mavericks with a strained back and guard Rafer Alston missed his third straight contest with a hairline fracture in his fibula.

Rookie Luther Head, starting in place of McGrady, scored a career-high 28 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Yao Ming had 20 points and Derek Anderson added 19 for Houston on Tuesday.

Also, shooting guard Dion Glover underwent right knee surgery on Tuesday and is sidelined indefinitely.
