Sixers stop off in Windy City

02.16.2006

(Basketball News) - The Philadelphia 76ers try to go into the All-Star break on a high note this evening, as they visit the Chicago Bulls at the United Center in the final game for both teams before this weekend’s festivities.

On Wednesday, Allen Iverson scored 42 points, including two pivotal buckets in overtime, as the 76ers fought past San Antonio, 103-100, at the Wachovia Center.

Iverson, who will be appearing in his seventh All-Star Game this weekend, has averaged 32.2 points over his last five games since missing four in a row with an ankle injury.

Andre Iguodala induced overtime with a rebound putback in the final seconds of regulation and finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for Philadelphia, which snapped a three-game slide.

The Sixers had a season-high 16 steals in the win, led by Chris Webber and John Salmons, who each had five. Webber also had 21 points.

Philadelphia, which will host LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers out of the break, has dropped two straight on the road and is 9-15 away from home this season.

Chicago, meanwhile, comes in on a sour note after dropping a 105-101 home- decision in overtime to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. Ben Gordon netted 30 points and Kirk Hinrich had 21 along with nine assists for the Bulls, who suffered their sixth loss in eight outings.

The Bulls are now 2-9 in their last 11 games decided by five points or less and 2-5 in overtime this season.

Tyson Chandler had 15 rebounds in the loss and has grabbed at least 10 rebounds in each of his last 10 games, averaging 10.1 boards during that span.Dennis Rodman was the last Bull to grab at least 10 boards in 11 straight games, accomplishing the feat from March 22-April 11, 1998.

Chicago, which is in the midst of a four-game homestand that will conclude with visits from Milwaukee and Detroit out of the break, is 10-14 in its arena this season.

The Sixers dropped the final two meetings of the season last year to the Bulls, but have won eight of the last 11 matchups. Philly has also had success in the Windy City, where it has won 10 of 12 and 11 of 14.
