Spurs cut down Nets

Tim Duncan posted 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Spurs, who have won 12 straight games. Manu Ginobili donated 12 points off the bench, while Brent Barry had 11 with seven boards in the win.

San Antonio shot 46.6 percent from the floor.

Vince Carter netted 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Nets, who have dropped five in a row. Mikki Moore had 14 points and Josh Boone chipped in 11 with eight boards in defeat.

The Spurs held an 18-15 lead after one quarter of play and went on a 10-0 run — led by three-pointers from Ginobili and Barry — in the final 2 1/2 minutes of the second for a 42-33 halftime edge.

San Antonio built up a double-digit advantage in the third when Duncan’s jumper made it 52-42 with 5:34 left. Fabricio Oberto then extended the lead to 66-52 with a free throw at the conclusion of the frame.

Bostjan Nachbar’s dunk early in the fourth cut New Jersey’s deficit to nine points, and Carter’s alley-oop dunk 31 seconds later made it 74-67.

Ginobili, though, drilled a trey and then made a rare dunk off an assist from Duncan for an 81-67 lead with 6:28 to play.

Three minutes later, the Spurs’ advantage reached 18 points on Parker’s jump shot. The Nets couldn’t get any closer than 12 the rest of the way.

New Jersey shot 42 percent in the contest.
