Spurs down Sixers

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Brent Barry scored 23 points, as the San Antonio Spurs dropped the Philadelphia 76ers, 99-85, at the Wachovia Center.

Tim Duncan posted 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Spurs, who have won six of their last eight. Manu Ginobili and Robert Horry added 12 points apiece.

Andre Iguodala scored 20 points for the 76ers, who have dropped four of five. Kyle Korver netted 13 points off the bench, while Samuel Dalembert had 12 points and 12 boards. Willie Green, Steven Hunter and Joe Smith each added 10 points.

San Antonio got going quickly on a 9-0 run down the first-quarter stretch capped by a pair of Barry layups for a 24-10 lead before doubling the Sixers’ points production, 30-15, heading into the second.

The Spurs maintained control through the second, closing the stanza on a 6-0 run snapped by Green’s runner with 22 seconds left for a 61-41 Spurs halftime lead.

The Sixers came out of the locker room with renewed vigor, notching eight of the first 10 points scored. Philly outscored the Spurs by seven in the quarter to trail just 78-65 heading into the fourth.

The Spurs defended any Philly rally with a 9-0 spurt down the stretch capped by a Jacque Vaughn jumper with 1:25 remaining, and cruised to the victory thereafter.

Philly shot a dismal 1-for-8 (12 percent) from beyond the arc, compared to 11- for-23 (47 percent) by San Antonio.

Game Notes

Hunter had a career-high 15 rebounds...This was the second and final meeting of the season between the squads. On December 16th, Tony Parker scored 24 points and dished outs eight assists, and Ginobili hit two free throws with 10.8 seconds to ice a 103-98 win for the Spurs over Philadelphia at the AT&T Center...San Antonio has lost five of seven and six of its last 11 at Philadelphia, but have won five of the last six contests in this series.
