Spurs edge Bulls in overtime

11.7.2005

Chicago, IL (Basketball News) - Tony Parker scored eight of his 22 points in overtime to lead the San Antonio Spurs over the Chicago Bulls, 104-95, at the United Center.

Tim Duncan added 24 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks for the Spurs, who outscored the Bulls 13-4 in OT on their way to their third win in four games this season. Manu Ginobili tallied 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for San Antonio, which defeated the Bulls for the ninth straight time.

Luol Deng had 19 points and six rebounds and Ben Gordon tallied 14 points for Chicago, which has dropped two straight after opening the season with an OT win versus Charlotte.

With the game tied a 93-93 in overtime, the veteran group of Spurs took over and the Bulls appeared to run out of steam. Parker’s basket just over a minute into the session gave San Antonio the lead for good. Michael Finley followed with a three-pointer for a five-point lead and Chicago could never recover.

Duncan’s jumper with 41 second left made it a seven-point game and the Spurs cruised to the finish.

Finely ended with eight points off the bench.

San Antonio built itself a 33-21 lead after one quarter and carried a 50-42 advantage into halftime.

Chicago responded in the third, outscoring the Spurs 26-19 to draw within 69-68 heading into the fourth.

The game remained close throughout the quarter with the largest lead for either team being four points. Finley’s basket at the midway mark gave the Spurs an 81-77 edge.

Chicago answered to tie the game at 81-81 and it continued to be close into the final minute of regulation. After Tony Parker gave the Spurs a 91-89 lead with 1:03 remaining, the game would go without a bucket until Ben Gordon came up with a huge baseline jumper with just 16 seconds left to tie the game at 91-91.

Ginobili had a chance to win the game, but he couldn’t get a good shot off as time expired to force overtime.
