03.22.2006

(Basketball News) - The streaking San Antonio Spurs begin an important five- game road trip tonight, as they visit the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.

San Antonio owns a slim one-half game lead over the Dallas Mavericks for first place in the Southwest Division and the top spot in the Western Conference.

Denver is in first place in the Northwest Division. The Nuggets have a 5 1/2 game lead over the second place Utah Jazz.

This is the fourth and final meeting of the season between San Antonio and Denver. The Spurs won the three previous contests and have won eight of the last 10 meetings overall in this series.

San Antonio has won three of its last four at Denver.

The Spurs go for their sixth straight victory. On Tuesday, Tony Parker scored a game-high 29 points and dished out seven assists as San Antonio defeated the Golden State Warriors, 107-96, at the AT&T Center.

Tim Duncan contributed a double-double with 21 points and 13 boards and Beno Udrih netted 13 off the bench for the Spurs, who have won five straight and 13 of their last 15 games overall.

San Antonio, which has won two in a row as the visitor, is 23-10 on the road this season. The Spurs will also visit Portland, Seattle, the Clippers and Lakers on the swing.

The Nuggets attempt to win back-to-back games as they play the first of a brief two-game homestand. On Saturday, Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points and dished out seven assists as Denver knocked off the Hornets, 109-94, at New Orleans Arena.

Andre Miller and Kenyon Martin each netted 17 in the win over the Hornets for the Nuggets, who finished 5-2 on their seven-game road trip. Greg Buckner scored 19 points, while Reggie Evans collected 16 rebounds for the Nuggets, who have won seven of their last nine games overall.

Denver, which is scheduled to host the Seattle SuperSonics on Friday, is a solid 21-12 at home this season.
