Spurs welcome Wizards to AT&T Center

04.1.2006

(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs return home after going 3-2 on a five-game road trip, as they welcome the Washington Wizards to the AT&T Center.

San Antonio is in first place in the Southwest Division and is the top seed in the Western Conference playoff race, while Washington is No. 5 in the Eastern Conference.

This is the second and final meeting of the campaign between the clubs. On November 12th, All-Star Gilbert Arenas scored 43 points to lead the Wizards to a 110-95 victory over the Spurs in DC.

The Wizards have won two in a row in this series. Washington has lost five straight after winning its last four at San Antonio.

San Antonio enters tonight’s contest on a two-game winning streak. On Thursday, Tim Duncan scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Spurs to a 96-85 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center.

Tony Parker netted 19 and dished out six assists in the win over the Lakers for the Spurs, who have won eight of their last 10 games overall. Nazr Mohammed and Robert Horry both ended with 12 points apiece, while Manu Ginobili scored 11 in the victory.

The Spurs, who will visit the Utah Jazz on Tuesday at the Delta Center, are an impressive 30-4 at home this season. San Antonio has won four in a row as the host.

Meanwhile, Washington just had a two-game winning streak halted on Friday.

The Wizards suffered a 105-103 loss to the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center. Antawn Jamison had 28 points and nine rebounds and had a chance to win the game, but his three-pointer was no good.

Washington’s loss also allowed Miami to clinch the Southeast Division title.

The Wizards will close out a six-game road trip in San Antonio and are 3-2 on the swing. Washington is 13-21 as the guest this season.
