Initial reports say Stoudamire ruptured a tendon in his right knee and Grizzlies head coach Mike Fratello indicated that surgery will likely be necessary.
"We just lost a big, big part of the heart of this team by losing Damon," said Fratello after the game. "They feel that right now he’ll probably have surgery. It could be the rest of the year, the way it looks."
Stoudamire was hurt in the second quarter of Friday’s 93-90 win on a drive to the basket and needed to be carted off the floor. He had four points, six rebounds and four assists before leaving the contest.
In his first season with Memphis, Stoudamire is averaging 11.7 points and a team-best 4.7 assists in 27 games. He signed a four-year deal with the Grizzlies this past summer after spending the previous seven-plus seasons with Portland.
