Suns acquire veteran Jackson

01.21.2005

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns acquired swingman Jim Jackson and a 2005 second-round draft pick on Friday from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for three reserves — guard Casey Jacobsen, forward/center Maciej Lampe and forward Jackson Vroman.

The 34-year-old Jackson played in 24 games this season for Houston and averaged 13.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per contest. He was then traded to New Orleans along with Bostjan Nachbar for David Wesley in late December. However, Jackson refused to report to the Hornets.

Jackson has also enjoyed stints with Dallas, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Golden State, Portland, Atlanta, Cleveland, Miami and Sacramento during his 13-year NBA career. He has posted averages of 15.2 points, 4.9 boards and 3.4 assists over 805 contests, including 646 starts.

"Jim Jackson adds significant depth to our roster and should significantly increase our bench productivity. He is a savvy vet whose game fits our system well," said Suns president and general manager Bryan Colangelo.

Jacobsen participated in 40 games this year for Phoenix and averaged 5.3 points and 1.7 rebounds per outing. He was selected by the Suns with the 22nd overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. In 190 career contests, he has averaged 5.5 points per game.

Lampe averaged 2.8 points in 16 games for the Suns this season, while Vroman saw limited action in 10 contests.
