Suns host slumping Clippers

03.16.2004

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - The Los Angeles Clippers attempt to put the brakes on a four-game losing streak tonight, as they visit the Phoenix Suns at America West Arena.

This is the third meeting of the season between the two squads. Both clubs have picked up a victory at the Staples Center in the previous meetings. The teams will play again on April 13th at Phoenix.

The Clippers were defeated by the Dallas Mavericks, 101-88, on Sunday at the Staples Center. LA’s Quentin Richardson registered team highs of 32 points and 11 boards, while Corey Maggette pitched in 25 points and eight rebounds. Elton Brand had a terrible night, shooting just 2-of-11 for a season-low five points, as the Clippers have dropped eight of their last nine overall.

Richardson has averaged 28.5 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in his last two games.

The Clippers are 3-8 in Tuesday games this season. LA, which has lost six straight on is 8-25 as the visitor.

On Monday, Joe Johnson buried a jump shot with 1.4 seconds left in overtime, lifting the Suns to a 99-97 win over the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center. Phoenix halted a four-game losing streak and collected its third straight win versus the Rockets. Johnson had 19 points, while Shawn Marion scored 29 and tied the game with a three-pointer late in regulation.

Amare Stoudemire scored 24 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for the Suns, who overcame a 21-point deficit and shot 35 percent for the game. Leandro Barbosa added 14 points in the win.

Phoenix is 3-7 in Tuesday games this season. The Suns, who have lost three straight at home, are just 14-19 as the host.

The road team has won seven of the last nine contests in this series. The Clippers have won three of four and four of their last six at Phoenix.
