Top European PG heading to Pacers

07.25.2005

Indianapolis, IN (Basketball News) - The Indiana Pacers have apparently signed Lithuanian point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius to a three-year contract. The Indianapolis Star reports the deal is for $12 million and could be announced by the end of the week.

"It boiled down to the opportunity to win a championship," Jasikevicius’ agent, Doug Neustadt, told the paper. "He has great respect for the organization and the people involved in it. He feels this team is very deep and talented."

Jasikevicius, who played collegiately at Maryland, is widely considered the best guard in Europe and averaged nearly 15 points and six assists in leading Maccabi Tel Aviv to its second straight Euroleague title last season.

In Lithuania’s victory over the United States in last summer’s Olympics in Greece Jasikevicius tallied 28 points.

The 29-year-old Jasikevicius chose the Pacers over Utah and Cleveland.
