Turkoglu’s heroics lift Magic over Seattle

11.8.2006

Orlando, FL (Basketball News) - Hidayet Turkoglu’s fadeaway jumper with 0.4 seconds left on the clock lifted Orlando to a thrilling 88-87 victory over Seattle at TD Waterhouse Center.

The Magic owned an 86-82 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the fourth, but Ray Allen drained a three and Rashard Lewis hit a layup to put the SuperSonics up 87-86 with 5.7 seconds left.

Turkoglu then took the inbound pass and hit the game-winner from the left side to give Orlando its second straight win.

Turkoglu and Jameer Nelson, who shot 8-of-12 from the field, each finished with 18 points while Grant Hill scored 12 and had five assists for the Magic, who have won four of their last five.

Carlos Arroyo contributed with 10 points and Dwight Howard had 10 rebounds and eight points in the victory.

Allen poured in a game-high 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting and Lewis added 16 for Seattle, which has lost four of six.

Nick Collison and Luke Ridnour each scored 10 points in the loss.

The Magic went on a 13-0 burst in the first 3 1/2 minutes of the opening quarter. Howard got things going with a dunk and capped the run with two free throws. Orlando led by as many as 12 with 4:09 left, but the SuperSonics scored five straight points, including a layup and free throw by Collison to cut their deficit to 24-21 at the end of the first.

Seattle took a four-point lead in the second on Damien Wilkins’ layup and dunk, but Arroyo drained a jumper to put the Magic up by two midway through the frame. The SuperSonics then regained the advantage and never looked back as Allen finished up the quarter with six consecutive points to make it a 47-42 contest at the break.

In the third, Lewis’ jumper made it a 63-51 Seattle advantage with 5:47 remaining, but Orlando responded with a 16-4 run — capped by Keith Bogans’ three-pointer — to knot the game 67-67 at the end of the quarter.

With the game tied at 71-71 in the fourth, Orlando went on an 8-0 spurt that was finished up with a jumper by Darko Milicic and two Arroyo free throws. Seattle, though, cut it to four on a driving layup by Chris Wilcox with 1:58 left.
