Utah’s Kirilenko likely out another month

12.10.2004

Salt Lake City, UT (Basketball News) - Utah Jazz starting forward Andrei Kirilenko will likely be sidelined another month because of a knee injury.

Kirilenko, who is on the injured list, sprained a ligament in his right knee during a game against San Antonio on November 27 and the rehabilitation process has taken longer than expected.

The team was hoping that Kirilenko would return in two weeks, but the Salt Lake Tribune reported Friday that the All-Star forward will likely be out for another month. He is not expected to begin rehab on the knee until the Jazz return from a road trip around Christmas time.

"He understands this is a slow process," said Jazz trainer Gary Briggs. "We’re still in the healing process now. [After Christmas], we’ll get to the rehab phase."

The 23-year-old Kirilenko is in his fourth NBA campaign. In 14 games this season, he is averaging 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest.
