Van Exel placed on IL; Warriors sign LaRue

03.1.2004

Oakland, CA (Basketball News) - The Golden State Warriors placed guard Nick Van Exel on the injured list and signed guard Rusty LaRue to a 10-day contract on Monday.

Van Exel is suffering from chronic left knee inflammation and pain, which is the same injury that sent him to the injured list on February 1 and caused him to miss eight games.

Overall this season, Van Exel has missed 15 games due to his left knee injury and two because of a hip-pointer. He had arthroscopic surgery on the knee on October 20, 2003.

Van Exel is averaging 12.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 39 games this season.

Golden State next plays the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.

LaRue has been playing with the Asheville Altitude of the NBDL, the NBA’s developmental league. He has averaged 10.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 17 games with the Altitude. He leads the NBDL in three-point field goal percentage at 48.3 percent.

LaRue, 30, is the Warriors first NBDL call-up.
