Wallace’s dunk helps lead Bobcats past Warriors

03.8.2006

Charlotte, NC (Basketball News) - Gerald Wallace slammed home a missed shot with seven seconds left to lift the Charlotte Bobcats to a 104-101 home win over Golden State.

Wallace finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists for Charlotte, which snapped a four-game home losing streak. Jumaine Jones netted 29 points in the victory, while Brevin Knight sprang for 14 points and 10 assists.

Jason Richardson had 27 points and five assists to pace the Warriors, who have lost four in a row and eight of their last nine. Troy Murphy posted a double- double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Monta Ellis contributed 13 points.

The Bobcats trailed 101-98 with 52 seconds remaining after Adonal Foyle hit a pair from the free throw line, but scored the last six points of the game to steal the win.

Knight started the surge with a jumper that made it a one-point game with 41 seconds on the clock. Then, after a Richardson miss, Wallace corralled Melvin Ely’s airball in mid-leap and threw down an emphatic dunk with seven seconds left to make it 102-101, Charlotte.

Baron Davis had a chance to put the Warriors ahead but his jumper rimmed out and Jones collected the rebound, was fouled, and sank both free throws.

Richardson’s three-point attempt at the buzzer to tie the game was off the mark.

Golden State trailed 34-30 after one quarter, but started the second frame on a 12-2 run to assume a 42-36 edge. Ike Diogu had four points in that stretch, including a lay-in with 9:48 remaining to cap the spurt.

The Warriors pushed their lead to 10 in the final minute before halftime courtesy of a Murphy layup, and went into intermission holding a 64-55 advantage.

The Bobcats cut their deficit to 81-76 by the end of the third quarter, however, and used a 9-0 charge early in the fourth to take an 85-84 lead.

Charlotte fell back behind 97-93 but rattled off five unanswered points and went ahead by one following a Knight jumper in the paint with 2:12 left.

Game Notes

Charlotte’s Raymond Felton left with an abdominal strain late in the third quarter and did not return...The Warriors have lost 13 of their last 14 road games...Jones has a three-pointer in 25 straight games...Golden State had 21 offensive rebounds.
