Warriors host Gasol and Grizzlies

01.12.2004

Oakland, CA (Basketball News) - The Golden State Warriors welcome Pau Gasol and the Memphis Grizzlies to the Arena tonight for a Western Conference battle.

On Saturday, Golden State escaped with a 113-110 overtime victory over the Seattle SuperSonics in front of its home crowd. Cliff Robinson scored 28 points to lead the Warriors to the win.

Jason Richardson added 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds for the Warriors, who put an end to a seven-game losing streak. Robinson finished 10- of-16 from the field, including 6-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Nick Van Exel contributed 13 points and 11 assists for Golden State, while Brian Cardinal poured in 16 points in the win.

Warriors forward Troy Murphy sat out his second straight game on Saturday because of a bone spur on his right ankle. He is questionable for tonight’s game.

Golden State, which has won three of its last four at home, is 11-6 as the host this season.

The Grizzlies come into tonight’s game fresh off a win over the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center. Shane Battier hit a running 13-foot jumper with 16 seconds remaining in overtime to give Memphis a 108-107 victory over the Clippers on Sunday.

Stromile Swift scored a game-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field for Memphis, as the Grizzlies snapped an eight-game road losing streak. Swift was one of six Grizzlies to score in double-figures, including Gasol with 18 and James Posey’s 17. Jason Williams and Bonzi Wells each netted 12, while Bo Outlaw chipped in 10 points.

Memphis is 7-13 on the road this season.

In 2002-03, the teams split four games as each club won once on its homecourt and once on the road.

Overall, the Grizzlies have won three of the last five contests with the Warriors, who have won three of the last four as the host against the Grizzlies.
