Washington Wizards Team Report - February 8

(Basketball News) - The Wizards remained on the winning track Monday night, as they posted a 108-104 victory over the Indiana Pacers at the MCI Center.

Gilbert Arenas tied a career high with 43 points and also added nine rebounds and six assists to pace the Wizards to the win. Arenas scored 16 of his points in the fourth quarter for the Wizards, who have won back-to-back contests on the heels of a four-game losing streak. The All-Star hopeful also scored 43 points on January 18 against the Dallas Mavericks. He has scored 30 or more points in eight of his last 12 games.

Arenas continues to lead the team in points (24.7 ppg, 8th NBA) and minutes (39.9 mpg, 7th), while sitting second behind the injured Larry Hughes in assists (5.2 apg). The Arizona product is also fourth in the league in three- point field goals made (113) and seventh in steals (1.80 spg).

Antawn Jamison chipped in 24 points in the win. Juan Dixon netted 11 points and also made a key steal in the closing seconds for the Wizards. Jarvis Hayes added 10 points in the victory.

Washington shot an impressive 49 percent from the field in the win, including 6-of-12 (.500) from three-point range. The Wizards managed to hit only 22- of-37 (.595) shots at the charity stripe, but limited their turnovers to eight in the contest.

In the contest, the Wizards were outrebounded, 43-39, while holding the Pacers to 46 percent shooting. Washington also forced 13 Indiana turnovers in the contest.

Washington, which is two games into a four-game homestand, continues its slate against San Antonio at the MCI Center on Wednesday. The Wizards host the Clippers on Friday and head to Detroit to face the Pistons on Saturday.

The Wizards are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference playoff chase, trailing East leader Miami by 6 1/2 games.
