Reed was an adviser for the Knicks last season after spending 14 years in New Jersey’s front office. He served as the Nets’ senior vice president when current New Orleans coach Byron Scott guided New Jersey.
The 62-year-old Louisiana native captured NBA titles with the Knicks in 1970 and 1973. Reed, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1982, is well known for his hobbling walk through the tunnel at Madison Square Garden and onto the floor for game seven of the 1970 championship series between the Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers.
