Wizards make qualifying offers to Brown, Blake

06.29.2005

Washington, DC (Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards announced Wednesday that the team has made qualifying offers to forward Kwame Brown and guard Steve Blake, which will make both players restricted free agents.

Washington will now have the chance to match any other offer to Brown and Blake.

Brown, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, has not yet lived up to the hype as the fourth-year pro has posted career averages of just 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds.

The 23-year-old, who made the jump to the pros straight from high school, scored 7.0 points and hauled in 4.9 boards last season while playing in only 42 games.

Brown, who rejected a multi-year contract extension in the fall, missed most of his team’s playoff games in 2004-05 as he was suspended by the club for an internal problem.

Blake, a two-year player out of Maryland, scored 4.3 points and handed out 1.6 assists last season while playing primarily in a backup role. For his career, the 25-year-old has totaled 5.3 points and 2.3 assists.
