Antawn Jamison had 23 points on 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, and pulled down 13 rebounds, and Jared Jeffries contributed 10 points and eight rebounds for the Wizards, who have won two of their last three games.
Primoz Brezec tied a career-high with 27 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds, and Raymond Felton netted 18 and dished out a career-high 13 assists for the Bobcats, who have lost 11 consecutive games.
The Wizards led 86-76 on Caron Butler’s jumper at the 9:31 mark , but Charlotte reeled off a 10-2 run, highlighted by three Brezec baskets, to come within 88-86. Washington connected on only one field goal in almost 7 1/2 minutes bridging the third and fourth quarters to help fuel the streak.
The Bobcats got as close as 95-94, however, the Wizards scored six unanswered points to lead 101-94 with under a minute to play. Charlotte’s Jumaine Jones hit a trey to pull his team within four, but Washington hit 6-of-6 at the line to seal the victory.
The Wizards ran out to an early 14-4 lead, but the Bobcats responded with an 18-6 run, capped by Matt Carroll’s layup, to put Charlotte on top 22-20. Washington shot 65 percent and led 31-30 after 12 minutes, as Jeffries drained a three-pointer with time running down.
The Bobcats’ Alan Anderson hit a trey with under 10 seconds left to cut the deficit to 57-52 at the half. Arenas had 22 first half points.
Jamison scored 12 of the Wizards first 14 points in the third quarter with four three-pointers, but Charlotte hit five of its first nine shots and trailed 71-64 with 6:50 remaining.
Bernard Robinson’s free throw narrowed the Bobcats’ gap to 73-71, but Washington countered with a 9-2 spurt, including four points from Etan Thomas, and led 82-73 heading into the final frame.
