03.29.2004

San Antonio, TX (Basketball News) - The Cleveland Cavaliers target their first win in San Antonio since 1988 this evening when they open a three-game road trip against the Spurs at the SBC Center.

The Cavs defeated the Spurs earlier in the season, but have dropped six of eight and 16 of the last 20 meetings. Cleveland has also lost 13 straight in San Antonio with its last win there coming back on December 8, 1988.

On Saturday Cleveland kept its playoff hopes alive, as LeBron James scored a career-high 41 points and scored the last 10 points of the game to lift the Cavaliers to a 107-104 win over the New Jersey Nets at Gund Arena.

James also handed out a career-best 13 assists and Carlos Boozer added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Cleveland which snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Cavs are currently a half-game back of the Boston Celtics for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland, which has not reached the postseason since the 1997-98 campaign, is also just a game back of seventh- place New York.

The Cavaliers have won four straight and five of their last six on the road and are 11-24 away from home this season.

San Antonio, meanwhile, kept its Midwest Division title hopes alive on Saturday, as Tim Duncan posted 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Spurs over Phoenix, 105-76.

Hedo Turkoglu also netted 14 points for the Spurs, who won for the fourth time in five games and have moved within 1 1/2 games of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Midwest. San Antonio is also just two games back of the Los Angeles Lakers for the third seed in the Western Conference.

The Spurs have won eight straight and 11 of their last 12 at home and are 28-8 in their arena this season.
