Nightly Recap for 11/11/08

  By Christopher Sells
11.12.2008 - Updated on 11.12.2008

Jazz 93, Sixers 80

The Jazz outscored the Sixers by 17 in the final quarter to hand Philadelphia their third straight loss. Carlos Boozer scored 19 points and added 16 rebounds to lead the Jazz and Deron Williams scored seven points and dished out nine assists in his first game of the season. Andre Miller led Philly with 25 points and six assists and Elton Brand continued his underachievement with 13 points and five boards.

Nuggets 88, Bobcats 80

Carmelo Anthony posted a game-high 25 points and Chauncey Billups added 16 as the Nuggets improved to 3-0 with him at the point. The Bobcats’ Jason Richardson scored 23. Despite high expectations from many, Charlotte fell to 2-5 with this loss.

Bucks 93, Cavaliers 99

LeBron James scored 41 again. Again. James put up 41 for the third time in less than a week as the Bucks dropped their third straight and proved, as always, that shoot less than 40% will pretty much guarantee you a loss. James had six assists and three steals to go with his score and Mo Williams had 16 and 5 in his first games against his former team.

Hawks 113, Bulls 108

Despite 26 points, 10 rebounds and six assists from Derrick Rose, the Bulls were unable to give the Hawks their first loss of the year. Atlanta’s Joe Johnson had a bit of an off night, but had plenty of support, including 27 and 17 from Horford and double-figure scoring from four other players. Andres Nocioni scored 20 for the Bulls and Ben Gordon and Luol Deng added 19 apiece.

Knicks 80, Spurs 92

The Spurs didn’t need Tony Parker or Manu Ginobili tonight, since the Knicks were in town. They used Tim Duncan’s 23 points, nine rebounds and seven assists to notch their second victory of the season. The Knicks had some nice indiviual efforts, but were unable to shoot well enough as a team to take advantage of San Antonio’s second-tierers.

Lakers 106, Mavericks 99

Despite trailing most of the game, the Lakers were able to get out of Dallas while remaining undefeated. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 27 points and Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum both posted double-doubles. Jason Kidd posted a triple double with 16, 11 and 10 and many of the Mavs’ role players stepped up against the preseason title favorites. The missing link was Dirk Nowitzki, who remained scoreless for most of the third quarter and all of the fourth. This after he lit into his teammates a couple of nights ago for not competing. Just saying...

Pistons 100, Kings 92

The Pistons got their first win with Allen Iverson, as the recently traded guard scored 30 points and handed out nine assists. Tayshaun Prince added 26 points and 11 boards. The Pistons won on the strength of shooting 83% on 36 free throws while the Kings shot 59% on 17 free throws.

Timberwolves 110, Warriors 113

The Warriors needed overtime and a Wolves shooting drought to get their third win on the year last night. Stephen Jackson contributed 30 points for the game and Andris Biedrins had 13 points and 15 rebounds. Al Jefferson continued his solid play for the Wolves with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Despite solid play from most of the team, the Wolves remain at one win for the season.
