New York Knicks Team Report - April 15 04.15.2004
|
(Basketball News) - The New York Knicks fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 100-90, on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in the season finale for both teams.
Stephon Marbury led all scorers with 27 in defeat for New York, which finished as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race with a 39-43 record. Making the playoffs at all should be considered an accomplishment for the Knicks, who looked dead in the water with a 10-18 mark on December 22, when Isiah Thomas took over as club president for the fired Scott Layden.
Thomas turned the roster over dramatically, and the Knicks now have a first- round playoff matchup with the two-time defending Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Nets.
New York had four others in double figures. Tim Thomas tallied 13 points while Kurt Thomas recorded 12 points and 12 boards. Nazr Mohammed also had 12 points in the loss.
The Knicks and Nets will play the first game of the best-of-seven series on Saturday at Continental Airlines Arena.
