(Basketball News) - Tim Thomas scored a game-high 32 points to lead the New York Knicks to a 114-110 overtime victory against the Washington Wizards at Madison Square Garden.
Nazr Mohammed added 14 points for New York and his tip-in basket as time expired forced the extra session. Stephon Marbury contributed 16 points and 14 assists for the Knicks, who have won two straight.
Shandon Anderson came off the bench to chip in with 17 points in the triumph, as New York played most of the contest without Allan Houston, who bruised his quadriceps in the first quarter and did not return.
Thomas scored with 2 1/2 minutes remaining in overtime to give the Knicks the lead for good at 102-101. Marbury then hit back-to-back baskets to push the lead to 106-101 with 1:20 left, virtually sealing the contest.
The Wizards held a 96-94 lead with 6.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter after Gilbert Arenas hit a free throw. On the Knicks’ next possession the ball went to Marbury, who drove the lane and tossed up an off-balance shot. The ball caromed off the rim and Mohammed, who was not blocked out on the play, tipped it in for the game-tying basket with no time left.
With the win, the Knicks remained tied with the Miami Heat for seventh-place in the Eastern Conference playoff race, just a half-game back of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
New York, which will close a brief two-game homestand against the Atlantic Division-leading New Jersey Nets on Friday, has won six of its last nine at home and is 18-16 at MSG this season.
