(Basketball News) - DerMarr Johnson scored 10 of his 14 points during a game- clinching fourth-quarter run, as the New York Knicks beat the Atlanta Hawks, 96-84, at Madison Square Garden.
Nazr Mohammed added 18 points and 13 rebounds against his former team, as New York drew within one-half game of idle Miami for sixth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Stephon Marbury had 11 points and 11 assists for the Knicks, who also moved one game ahead of eighth-place Cleveland.
Anfernee Hardaway scored 14 points for New York, which has won three of four and six of nine.
The Knicks are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, 1/2 game behind sixth-place Miami and one game in front of eighth-place Cleveland.
Mohammed has averaged 13 points and 8.3 rebounds in his last four games.
New York is off until Friday when it hosts the Memphis Grizzlies. Earlier this season, the Knicks beat the Grizzlies, 98-94, on December 26, 2003 at The Pyramid.
