(Basketball News) - Michael Doleac scored the final four points of the game to rally New York to an 89-86 win over Boston on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
Doleac, who posted eight points and nine rebounds off the bench, hit a jumper and two free throws to overcome an 86-85 deficit and allow the Knicks to snap an eight-game losing streak in the series and a four-game skid overall.
Allan Houston added 26 points and Keith Van Horn contributed 21 points and seven rebounds for New York, which outscored the Celtics 51-32 in the second half. Kurt Thomas added 12 points and 17 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards.
Two foul shots by Kedrick Brown staked Boston to an 84-80 advantage with less than five minutes remaining.
Houston responded with five straight points to put the Knicks ahead 85-84 with 3:45 to go.
After Paul Pierce converted two free throws to regain an 86-85 lead for the Celtics, Doleac hit the go-ahead shot off a pass from Howard Eisley.
Doleac added the final foul shots with five seconds remaining.
Eisley dished out nine assists for the Knicks.
The Knicks are off until Wednesday when they host the Los Angeles Lakers.
