Barry, who underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to a repair a labral tear on his right shoulder on December 30, had not been expected to return until mid-February.
In 27 games this season, he is averaging 6.6 points and 2.3 assists per contest.
The 34-year-old Barry is in his 12th season in the NBA and was a key player off the bench for the Pistons last year. The Georgia Tech product averaged 18.4 minutes, 6.9 points and 2.6 assists in 80 games during the 2002-03 campaign.
Barry also had stints with Milwaukee, Golden State, Atlanta, the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento during his career.
To make room on the roster, Denver placed forward Mark Pope on the injured list with left knee tendinitis.
