07.10.2007

Las Vegas, NV (Basketball News) - Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden, the top pick in this year’s NBA Draft, will undergo a tonsillectomy to have his tonsils removed on Saturday, July 14.

The procedure will be performed at the The Vancouver Clinic in Vancouver, Washington by Dr. Don Newell. The recovery time is expected to be between two and three weeks.

Oden’s summer-league season comes to an end after just two games, while the seven-foot center will miss the July 20-22 USA National team’s mini-camp in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Oden recorded six points, two rebounds and 10 fouls in his summer league debut before posting 13 points, five rebounds, four blocks and nine fouls in his second game.

Oden averaged 15.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocks in one season at Ohio State before Portland made him the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft.
