Okur’s late three-pointer lifts Jazz over Sonics

12.3.2006

Salt Lake City, UT (Basketball News) - Mehmet Okur drilled the game-winning three-pointer with 1.6 seconds left in regulation to lift Utah past Seattle, 109-107, at EnergySolutions Arena.

Okur, who finished with 12 points, received the ball after Ray Allen hit a driving layup to put the SuperSonics up, 107-106 with seven seconds remaining.

The Jazz held an 82-70 advantage after three quarters, but Rashard Lewis drained a jumper to give Seattle its first lead of the frame, 103-102, at the 1:35 mark.

After two Matt Harpring free throws, Lewis answered with a pair from the line before Carlos Boozer’s layup made it a 106-105 contest in favor of Utah with 11 seconds to play.

Boozer scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out seven assists while Deron Williams donated 18 points with nine helpers for the Jazz, who have won two of their last three.

Utah finished 51.3 percent shooting.

Paul Millsap netted 16 points with 10 boards and Derek Fisher, Andrei Kirilenko and Matt Harpring each added 11 points in the last-second win.

Allen finished with 33 points, 20 of which came in the fourth quarter, despite shooting 8-of-19 from the field for the SuperSonics, who have lost four of their last five contests. Lewis added 27 points and eight rebounds.

Luke Ridnour and Chris Wilcox each finished with 13 points in defeat.

Millsap converted twice from the charity stripe to cut Utah’s deficit, 26-25, after one quarter of play. The Jazz, trailing by two at the 6:03 mark in the second, scored 14 of the next 21 points en route to a 52-47 lead at the break.

Johan Petro’s dunk got Seattle within three, 64-61, with 5:50 left in the third, but Utah doubled up on the SuperSonics with an 18-9 scamper to go up 82-70 on Boozer’s hook shot.

Seattle shot 46.5 percent from the field.
