Patterson, Milwaukee hold off Memphis

12.8.2006

Milwaukee, WI (Basketball News) - Ruben Patterson scored 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 100-94 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, in a contest that was not nearly as close the final score indicated.

Memphis never led, and trailed by as many as 27 points in the second half before Milwaukee backed down in the fourth quarter.

Michael Redd scored 25 points for the Bucks, who won back-to-back games for the first time this season. Maurice Williams and Andrew Bogut each added 11 points in the effort.

Hakim Warrick led the Grizzlies with 31 points and 13 rebounds, but was ejected after incurring his second technical foul of the game with 3:05 left in the fourth quarter. Brian Cardinal was the only other Memphis player to hit double-figures in scoring, with 11 points and seven rebounds, as the Grizzlies lost for the fourth time in five games.

Milwaukee blasted open an already large lead with a 21-4 run in the third quarter. Memphis had closed to within 10 points at 58-48 on a Warrick layup with seven minutes, but Milwaukee took over from there. Charlie Villanueva scored the last six to put the Bucks up 79-52 with 1:16 left in the quarter.

Memphis outscored the Bucks 38-18 in the fourth quarter to produce the respectable final margin, but the outcome was never in question.

Milwaukee ran out to an 11-2 start, and took a 28-16 lead into the second quarter.

Mike Miller hit two free throws to bring the Grizzlies to within 44-34 with 3:30 left in the first half, but Damir Markota’s only two points of the night came on a layup with 20 seconds remaining in the second quarter that sent the Bucks into the intermission up 50-36.

Game Notes

Warrick wasn’t alone in drawing technical fouls, as Bogut, Williams, and Cardinal also drew the ire of the referees with technicals on the night...Patterson’s 30 marks a season-high in points...Warrick’s double-double produced career-highs in both points and rebounds.
