(Basketball News) - The Philadelphia 76ers got a much needed win heading into the All-Star break, as they crushed the Washington Wizards, 113-88, on Wednesday at the Wachovia Center.
Allen Iverson scored 25 points and handed out seven assists, as the 76ers gave Chris Ford a victory in his Philadelphia head coaching debut.
On Tuesday, the 76ers fired first-year head coach Randy Ayers and replaced him on an interim basis with Ford, who previously coached in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers.
Glenn Robinson and John Salmons each netted 15 points and Zendon Hamilton added 14 to go along with 10 rebounds for Philadelphia, which halted a two- game skid and won for only the third time in its last 11 contests.
Eric Snow scored 10 points and Kenny Thomas netted nine with 10 rebounds for the 76ers. The win marked the largest margin of victory this season for the 76ers, who have captured eight of the last 10 meetings with Washington.
The Sixers are off until Tuesday when they start a three-game road trip at Denver. Earlier this season, the Nuggets defeated Philadelphia, 86-77, on December 12, 2003 at the Wachovia Center.
