(Basketball News) - Amare Stoudemire led all scorers with 24 points in leading the Phoenix Suns to a 104-99 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Friday at KeyArena.
Shawn Marion added 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds but it was Howard Eisley who made several key baskets en route to 16 points for the Suns, who have won two straight on the heels of an eight-game skid. Joe Johnson and Leandro Barbosa chipped in with 17 and 13, respectively.
Seattle trailed by as much as 17 with less than five minutes remaining in the third period but kept nibbling away at the margin.
Phoenix held Seattle at bay until Ray Allen’s baseline three-pointer capped a 9-0 rally that brought the Sonics within four at 94-90 with 3:44 left in the game. Just as they had done all contest when Seattle threatened, the Suns bounced right back to get more breathing room.
Eisley scored the only two buckets over the next three minutes until Allen’s free throws made it 98-92 with 51 seconds to play.
Seattle just ran out of time as the Suns made their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Suns, who will face the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, have just one win in their last seven on the road and are 7-24 away from home this season.
