Pistons, Timberwolves battle at Target Center

01.19.2007

(Basketball News) - The Detroit Pistons try to halt a two-game losing streak when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at the Target Center.

This is the second and final meeting of the campaign between the clubs. On January 15th, Kevin Garnett had 19 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks, and sealed the game with two from the free throw line late in overtime as the Timberwolves downed Detroit, 94-90, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Detroit has lost 10 of its last 12 at Minnesota. These teams have split the last four contests in this series.

The Pistons hit the road after going 1-2 on a three-game homestand. On Wednesday, Deron Williams scored 31 points and handed out 10 assists as the Utah Jazz edged Detroit, 100-99, at The Palace.

Chauncey Billups returned from a strained calf to record 26 points in the loss to Utah for the Pistons, who have lost four of their last five games overall. Tayshaun Prince tallied 17 points, while Antonio McDyess netted 16 and grabbed nine rebounds.

The game also featured the Detroit debut of Chris Webber, who had his contract bought out by the Philadelphia 76ers last week and officially signed a deal with his hometown Pistons on Tuesday. The five-time All-Star managed just two points and five rebounds in just over 15 minutes of action.

Detroit is 11-8 on the road this season. The Pistons return home to host the Sacramento Kings on Saturday at The Palace.

Minnesota also tries to get back on the winning track this evening. Joe Johnson poured in 29 points and handed out eight assists and the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Timberwolves, 105-88, at the Target Center.

Mark Blount scored 16 points and grabbed 11 boards in the loss to Atlanta for the Timberwolves, who had a three-game winning streak halted. Garnett scored 13 points and pulled down 13 boards in defeat.

The Timberwolves are 12-7 at home this season. After tonight’s game, they will embark on a five-game road trip. Minnesota will visit Phoenix, Utah, Portland, Seattle and the Clippers on the upcoming swing.
