Playoff rematch in Dallas

11.17.2003

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - The Portland Trail Blazers head to Dallas tonight to meet Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks in a Western Conference war at American Airlines Center.

This is the first time the teams have met since the Mavs eliminated the Blazers in seven games in the 2002-03 first round of the NBA playoffs. Dallas led the series 3-0 before Portland came back to win three straight and force a seventh game, which was won by the host Mavericks, 107-95.

Portland saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling 101-79 to the New Orleans Hornets.

Bonzi Wells and Rasheed Wallace each scored 19 points to lead the Blazers in the losing effort. Portland lost its fifth straight on the road against the Hornets.

Damon Stoudamire had 14 points and seven assists and Zach Randolph chipped in with 13 points for Portland, which shot 36 percent (30-of-83) from the floor against New Orleans. The Blazers went just 4-for-17 from three-point range.

The Blazers are 0-3 as the visitor this season.

Dallas dropped a 108-101 overtime decision to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night.

Nowitzki collected 19 points and 11 boards for the Mavericks, who lost for the first time in four games.

Dallas’ Tony Delk missed the Memphis game with a hamstring injury. Delk is day-to-day.

The Mavericks, who start a four-game homestand tonight, are a perfect 4-0 at home this season.

In the 2002-03 regular season, the teams split four meetings as both teams won once on its home court and once as the visitor.

Overall, the home team has been dominant in this series, winning 12 of the last 16 meetings. Portland has won two in a row over Dallas and four of the last seven contests
