Portland acquired the rights to the seventh overall selection through an earlier trade with Boston. The Trail Blazers sent point guard Sebastian Telfair, forward Theo Ratliff and a future second round draft pick to the Celtics for forward Raef LaFrentz, guard Dan Dickau and the seventh pick.
Boston chose Foye for Portland, but the Blazers turned around and immediately sent him to Minnesota for Roy, who was selected one spot earlier with the sixth pick.
Roy grabbed headlines and accolades in his senior campaign, being selected as a 2006 first team Associated Press All-American, 2006 Pac-10 Player of the Year and a 2006 Wooden Award Finalist.
Foye was named the 2006 Big East Player of the Year and has the ability to attack the basket and finish in traffic. He was part of a three-guard attack for the Wildcats during a run to the Minneapolis Regional final last season.
