(Basketball News) - The Portland Trail Blazers fell to the defending champion San Antonio Spurs, 78-66, on Monday at the Rose Garden.
Zach Randolph posted 13 points and nine rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who suffered their third straight loss and were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time in 22 seasons after Denver clinched the final berth with a win over Sacramento. Damon Stoudamire scored 12 points and Derek Anderson added 10.
Less than five minutes into the third quarter, Tony Parker hit a three-pointer to give San Antonio a 48-35 advantage. The Spurs, who led 59-41 at the end of the third quarter, opened a 62-41 edge on a three-point play by Parker 10 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Portland got no closer than 10 points in the fourth.
The Blazers will close their season on Wednesday at home against the Los Angeles Lakers.
