Raptors cruise past Hawks

01.5.2007

Toronto, ON (Basketball News) - Chris Bosh poured in 21 points and grabbed five rebounds as Toronto beat up on Atlanta, 105-94, at Air Canada Centre.

Bosh finished 8-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-11 from the line while Joey Graham scored 19 points and pulled down eight boards in the victory.

Morris Peterson donated 16 points, Andrea Bargnani had 12 and Jose Calderon also contributed 12 with a season-high 12 assists for the Raptors, who snapped a three-game losing skid.

"We learned in our last game with Phoenix not to let other teams take it to us," Calderon said. "Today we played good. We thought we did what we had to do."

Toronto shot 55 percent from the field.

Marvin Williams posted 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting for the Hawks, who have lost eight in a row and nine of 10. Speedy Claxton netted 18 points, and in doing so, joined the NBA’s 3,000 point club. He now has 3,014 points in his six-year career.

"We can’t put together a complete game," Williams said. "I think the guys were out there playing and fighting but we just couldn’t pull it together."

Joe Johnson scored 15 points, Zaza Pachulia poured in 12 and Josh Childress finished with 11 points in defeat.

Seven consecutive points by Darrick Martin — a running hook shot, a three- pointer and a pair of free throws — put Toronto up 31-27 after one quarter of play.

In the second, the Hawks closed to within two, 44-42, when Johnson drained a trey with 4:20 remaining. The Raptors then went on a 10-0 scamper capped by Bosh’s driving layup for a 10-point edge with 2 1/2 minutes left.

Bosh also hit a running layup as time expired in the frame as Toronto went into the locker room with a 58-48 lead.

A Claxton free throw cut Atlanta’s deficit to 66-60 early in the third, but the Raptors maintained their advantage and went into the final quarter up 81-70.

Toronto cruised to victory in the fourth while the Hawks never seriously threatened and trailed by double digits for most of the quarter.

Atlanta finished 50 percent from the floor.
