Raptors edge Sonics in OT

03.11.2007

Toronto, ON (Basketball News) - T.J. Ford scored 25 points, including nine down the stretch in overtime, and dished out 13 assists, as the Atlantic Division-leading Toronto Raptors downed the Seattle SuperSonics, 120-119, at Air Canada Centre.

After Chris Bosh hit a pair of jumpers in the opening two overtime minutes, Ford scored nine straight Toronto points.

Trailing by six with about 30 seconds left in overtime, Rashard Lewis had the ball stripped from his hands by Juan Dixon in the post, and Ford converted a free throw with 18 seconds left.

Damien Wilkins scored on a three-pointer with 6.7 seconds to go to cut the Toronto deficit to 119-116, but Anthony Parker hit the eventual game-winning free throw on the front end a second later.

Wilkins, though, raced downcourt and got off another three as time expired, for the final margin.

Bosh posted 27 points and 10 boards for Toronto, which has won back-to-back games. Andrea Bargnani scored 19 points, and Parker and Dixon added 11 apiece for the Raptors, who are 22-9 at home this season. They will visit Michael Redd and the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday at the Bradley Center.

Ray Allen scored 36 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and hit the buzzer beater in regulation to send the game into overtime. Lewis posted 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Sonics, who concluded their four-game road trip with three straight losses.

Johan Petro had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Chris Wilcox and Wilkins both added 12 for Seattle, which is a dismal 7-25 on the road this season. The SuperSonics return home to host the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday and the Golden State Warriors on March 17th at KeyArena.

With the game tied at 102, Lewis gathered a rebound and layed it back up with 20 seconds left in regulation.

After Ford missed on a layup, Lewis blocked a putback attempt by Bosh. But, Toronto got the rebound and Bargnani nailed a three from the top of the key, and got fouled. He added the free throw for a rare four-point play with 9.3 seconds left.

The Sonics inbounded the ball to Allen, who came off two screens in the post to receive the pass at the foul line. He came up short on a jump-shot attempt, but followed his shot, grabbed the rebound and floated a second attempt that swished through the net as the buzzer sounded.

The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes, until Toronto took off on a 14-4 run capped by a Bargnani trey with 2:31 remaining, and led 25-19 heading into the second.

The Sonics came back in the second on a 10-2 spurt finished by a Lewis trey with 3:19 left, and led 49-47 at halftime.

With the score knotted at 67, the Sonics closed the stanza on an 11-4 run for a 78-71 lead heading into the fourth.
