Report: Sixers welcome back Brown as executive VP

01.6.2007

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - The Philadelphia 76ers will reportedly announce that former head coach Larry Brown will return as the team’s executive vice president.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the announcement is expected to be made on Saturday with a news conference scheduled as early as Monday.

The Inquirer reports that Brown will help with special projects in the front office and assist the staff as well as the Sixers’ basketball operations.

Brown served as the Sixers’ coach from 1997-2003 and guided the club to a 255-205 record, including five playoff appearances and the 2001 NBA Finals, when they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games.

After Brown resigned as Philadelphia’s coach and vice president in May 2003, he joined the Detroit Pistons and led the team to the 2004 NBA championship and the 2005 NBA Finals.

The 66-year-old Brown then took over as coach of the New York Knicks for the 2006 campaign, but was fired last June after going 23-59.
