In the wake of an alleged violent confrontation with a woman last month, the 21-year-old Griffin has been charged with felonious aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault with bodily injury, a misdemeanor.
The charges are just the latest in a string of incidents involving Griffin, who was suspended indefinitely by the Rockets on October 16 for missing practices and a team flight to Sacramento for a preseason game.
They stem from an alleged incident that occurred at his home early Saturday, October 25, during which a 21-year-old woman said he assaulted her and shot at her at his southwest Houston home.
Griffin was also in the news last month when it was reported that he was seeking professional help for "emotional problems." His attorney, Rusty Hardin, disclosed that the troubled forward sought help at a facility in the Houston area. He did not elaborate on what type of facility Griffin had checked into.
Griffin, who is also facing a marijuana possession charge from last April, was obtained by the Rockets from the New Jersey Nets on the night of the 2001 NBA Draft. He averaged 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds over 77 games for Houston in 2002-03.
