Seattle SuperSonics Team Report - February 26

(Basketball News) - The Seattle SuperSonics were swept in a home-and-home series by the Utah Jazz, losing the finale of the set, 93-92, in overtime on Wednesday at KeyArena.

Ray Allen netted a game-high 40 points and hit 6-of-11 shots from beyond the arc for Seattle, which has dropped four of five, six of eight and eight of its last 10. Rashard Lewis added 15 points and Antonio Daniels netted 11 in the loss.

Leading by nine early in the fourth quarter, the Jazz went on a 13-0 spurt, turning the advantage into a four-point deficit. Greg Ostertag’s inside basket capped the burst, making it a 78-74 game with 6:30 left.

Allen’s trey stopped the bleeding, making it a 78-77 game, with 5:15 left. The next several minutes the game would go back and forth. With the game tied Utah had a chance to win it, but Carlos Arroyo’s shot was off the mark as time expired.

Allen opened the extra session with a jumper, giving Seattle an 86-84 lead. However, Utah would close the game by scoring nine of the final 15 points.

Andrei Kirilenko’s three-pointer gave the Jazz a 91-89 lead and his tip-in with nine seconds left iced the game, making it 93-89. Daniels drained a three-pointer as time expired for the final margin.

Seattle, which is 4-8 this month, has slipped into 11th place in the Western Conference, five games behind Denver for the eighth and final playoff spot.

To make matters worse, the Sonics hasn’t played a team with a winning record in their past nine games and have not been able to take advantage going just 3-6 in those contests.

The Sonics, who will wrap up a brief two-game homestand against the Phoenix Suns on Friday, has lost four of six and six of their last nine at home and are 16-15 in their gym this season.

Seattle has won two of three against the Suns this season and have won four of the last five meetings in the series. The Sonics have also won their last four in the Emerald City against Phoenix.
