(Basketball News) - The Seattle SuperSonics lost a tough game on Friday, falling to the Memphis Grizzlies, 98-97, at Key Arena.
Ronald Murray led the Sonics with 26 points and Vladimir Radmanovic finished with 23 points and eight rebounds. Brent Barry filled up the stat sheet with seven points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, as the Sonics lost their second straight and third in four games.
Memphis was trailing 79-71 to open the fourth quarter, but battled back to take the lead at 84-83 on a Jason Williams three-pointer with 6 1/2 minutes to go. A Murray basket put the SuperSonics back up by one, but Shane Battier drilled a three to put Memphis up two, 87-85.
Rashard Lewis hit a shot to tie it up, but Battier followed with a pair of free throws to give Memphis the 89-87 lead. Radmanovic scored with 3 1/2 minutes to go to re-tie the game and Murray drained a free throw to put the Sonics ahead by one.
Battier and Murray each traded a pair of free throws to make it 92-91 with 1 1/2 minutes left before a Williams three gave the Grizzlies a two-point lead. Murray followed with a pair of free throws to tie things at 94 with 1:05 left.
Memphis’ Dahntay Jones blocked a Murray shot to give his team the ball before Williams knocked down the three with 10 seconds left. Barry missed a three at the other end and Wright hit 1-of-2 free throws for the 98-94 advantage. Radmanovic hit a three with under one second remaining for the final score.
The Sonics are off until Sunday when they host Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards in the third of a four-game homestand.
