Dr. Randy Culp evaluated Hunter Tuesday morning and recommended that he undergo surgery. Hunter, though, traveled to New York for a second opinion from Dr. Michelle Carlson, an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Carlson determined Hunter will not require surgery.
Hunter will not play against Washington on Wednesday, and will return to the Sixers lineup after the All-Star Break wearing a splint on his left fifth finger. He will continue to wear an extension splint for six weeks when not playing.
Hunter is averaging 5.5 point and 4.0 rebounds for Philadelphia this season and has started the last 13 games. The six-year veteran suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Sixers’ 106-89 loss to Dallas on Sunday.
