Sixers resume stand vs. Sonics

03.7.2007

(Basketball News) - The Philadelphia 76ers will try to remain perfect on their six-game homestand tonight when they welcome the Seattle SuperSonics to the Wachovia Center.

Philadelphia is 4-0 so far on the stand and notched a 99-86 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Sunday. Andre Iguodala had 21 points, five rebounds and six assists as the 76ers battled back from a 17-point deficit for the win.

Willie Green and Kyle Korver both scored 20 points for Philadelphia, which has won a season-high four straight games. Joe Smith added 11 points and 10 boards in the winning cause.

The 76ers will close out the homestand versus the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday and have won five in a row at the Wachovia Center. Philadelphia, which is fourth in the Atlantic Division and six games off the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, owns a 14-15 record as the host this season.

On the injury front for Philly, rookie forward Rodney Carney (rotator cuff/labrum) is questionable for Wednesday’s game against Seattle.

The Sonics, meanwhile, have won three straight and will resume a four-game road trip this evening in Philly. Seattle opened the trip with a 100-99 win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.

Rashard Lewis’ three-pointer with 4.8 seconds left lifted the Sonics to just their seventh win in 29 road games this season. Lewis ended with 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, as Seattle pulled within four games of the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

Seattle will also visit Boston and Toronto on the trek.

Wednesday’s showdown between Seattle and Philadelphia is the second and final meeting of the season. The Sixers won the first matchup, 96-90, on November 15 at Key Arena, as Iguodala had 12 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.

Philadelphia has won three of four and four of the last six meetings with the SuperSonics, who have won nine of their last 12 trips to the City of Brotherly Love.
