The 76ers have five games remaining on the regular season schedule and are four games behind Orlando for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They stayed alive in the hunt with Tuesday’s 90-86 victory over the Indiana Pacers in the finale of a three-game homestand at the Wachovia Center.
Andre Miller scored 19 points and dished out 11 assists, as Philadelphia finished with a 2-1 mark on the stand. Louis Williams added a career-high 18 points and five assists for the Sixers, who have won two in a row and three of their past four games. Joe Smith chipped in 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Samuel Dalembert had 15 points and 12 boards.
Philadelphia is on the road this evening where it owns an 11-27 record this season. In injury news for the Sixers, forwards Andre Iguodala (back) and Kyle Korver (wrist) will miss Wednesday’s game and forward Rodney Carney (knee) is questionable. All three missed Tuesday’s win over the Pacers.
Boston has lost four straight and will open a short two-game homestand versus the Atlantic Division-rival 76ers.
In Tuesday’s 104-96 loss to the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena, Gerald Green scored a career-high 33 points for the Celtics, who have dropped five in a row on the road. The team was once again playing without leading scorer Paul Pierce and Al Jefferson. Pierce has missed six straight games with a sore left elbow, while Jefferson, the second-leading scorer on the team, has missed the last four with a bruised left knee. Both are doubtful for tonight’s home game.
The Celtics will also host the Milwaukee Bucks and are 12-26 as the host this season. Also on the injury front for Boston, guard Delonte West (ankle) is expected to miss Wednesday’s game.
Wednesday’s game between Atlantic Division rivals is the fourth and final meeting of the season. The 76ers are 2-1 so far in the series, but Boston has won five of the last eight meetings.
Philadelphia has lost four of seven and five of its last nine in Beantown.
