Sixers welcome Bobcats to Wachovia Center

After falling in overtime to the Milwaukee Bucks in their season-opener, the 76ers were embarrassed in Detroit on Wednesday, as they fell 108-88 to the Pistons at The Palace.

Allen Iverson paced the Sixers with 31 points and six assists, while Chris Webber added 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Through the first two games of the season Iverson is averaging 33 points and 7.5 assists with Webber scoring 24 points with 11.5 rebounds.

Philadelphia continues to play without center Samuel Dalembert, who will likely miss at least another week with a strained right quadriceps.

The Sixers, who play five of their next six games at home, were 25-16 in their building last season.

Charlotte, meanwhile, suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, as the Bobcats blew a 25-point third quarter lead before falling 109-105.

Gerald Wallace had 28 points and Emeka Okafor added 16 points and 12 rebounds for Charlotte, while Melvin Ely added 13 points and 15 boards.

Darius Songaila’s three-pointer with 5.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter tied the game at 98, forcing overtime. Rookie Raymond Felton had a chance to give Charlotte the win, but his three-pointer from 26 feet away was off the mark.

A layup by Chris Duhon 25 seconds into overtime gave the Bulls their first lead of the game, but a jumper by Wallace tied the game at 100. Tyson Chandler put in a layup with 2:12 left to give the Bulls a 104-102 lead and added a slam with 1:06 remaining to up Chicago’s edge to 106-102. A free throw by Duhon made it a five-point contest, but Primoz Brezec’s three-point play pulled Charlotte within 107-105 with 9.6 seconds left.

However, Songaila’s two free throws with 8.5 seconds remaining sealed the win

Charlotte, which will start a four-game homestand after tonight’s contest, was a dismal 4-37 away from home last season.

The Bobcats have lost all three meetings with the Sixers.
