Sonics’ Fortson suspended for Sunday’s game

11.14.2004

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Seattle forward Danny Fortson has been suspended for one game without pay as a result of a flagrant foul in Friday’s game against the Raptors.

The foul, on which Fortson attempted to elbow Toronto forward Chris Bosh, was originally ruled only a foul. But the league upgraded the foul to a flagrant, causing him to miss Sunday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The burly Fortson is averaging 9.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in just 16 minutes per game for the Sonics this season. Fortson was the 10th overall pick of the 1997 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks out of the University of Cincinnati.

The NBA also said Sunday that Clippers forward Elton Brand was fined $7,500 after his foul on New York Knicks forward Tim Thomas on Friday was changed to a flagrant as well.
