The 6-foot-9 Durant was the second overall selection in the draft. He became the first freshman to win National Player of the Year honors while averaging 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game for the Texas Longhorns last season.
Durant was also the winner of the Adolph Rupp Trophy, the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award, becoming the first-ever freshman in NCAA history to capture any of those awards.
Green, taken three slots after Durant at No. 5, was acquired in a trade with Boston that shipped Ray Allen to the Celtics.
Green averaged 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over three seasons at Georgetown University. He left the Hoyas ranking 17th in scoring, 16th in rebounding and 12th in assists on the school’s all-time list. As a junior, he also helped lead the squad to its first Final Four appearance since 1985.
The arrival of Durant and Green give the Sonics a much-needed boost to their frontcourt after losing Rashard Lewis to free agency. Seattle is coming off a disappointing 31-51 season in which it missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
Durant and Green, both forwards, are on the SuperSonics’ roster for the NBA Las Vegas Summer League. They will make their professional debuts on July 6 when the Sonics battle the Dallas Mavericks at Cox Pavilion.
