01.9.2007

(Basketball News) - The red-hot Phoenix Suns try to extend their winning streak to seven games when they welcome the Seattle SuperSonics to US Airways Center.

Phoenix plays the third of a five-game homestand. All-Star forward Shawn Marion dominated inside play with 24 points and 17 rebounds, as Phoenix continued its amazing run with a 128-105 rout of the Golden State Warriors on Sunday at US Airways Center.

Leandro Barbosa tallied 26 points and James Jones netted 25 in the win over Golden State for the Suns, who have won six in a row and 22 of their last 24 games overall. Reigning MVP Steve Nash contributed 14 points and 10 assists for Phoenix, and also became the ninth player (fourth active) in NBA history to reach the 10,000-point, 5,000-assist and 1,000 three-point field goal milestone.

Amare Stoudemire contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds in the victory over the Warriors.

The Suns, who have won four in a row at US Airways Center, are 14-3 at home this season. They will also host Cleveland and Orlando on the current homestand.

Seattle enters tonight’s contest on a four-game losing streak. Baron Davis scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out 11 assists to lead the Warriors over the SuperSonics, 108-104, on Saturday at ORACLE Arena.

Ray Allen finished with 38 points and Chris Wilcox contributed 22 points and seven rebounds in the loss to Golden State for the Sonics, who have dropped 12 of their last 15 games overall.

The SuperSonics are 4-15 on the road this season. After tonight’s contest, they return home for a season-long seven-game homestand. Seattle will host the Miami Heat, Utah Jazz, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers on the upcoming stand.

This is the first meeting of the season between the squads. Seattle has won three of four and four of its last six at Phoenix.

The Suns have won four of the last five contests in this series.
