Spurs and Mavs meet in Dallas

11.20.2003

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks meet tonight at American Airlines Center in a rematch of last year’s Western Conference finals.

In the 2003 playoffs, the Spurs disposed of the Mavericks in six games en route to their second NBA championship.

San Antonio has won four of its last five games, including a 94-81 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.

Tim Duncan had a game-high 21 points with 10 rebounds to lead his Spurs to the victory at SBC Center.

Tony Parker had 19 points, six assists and six rebounds and Manu Ginobili added 19 points for the Spurs.

Golden State trailed by nine at 70-61 going into the fourth quarter, but pulled within five at the 8:45 mark on a basket by Nick Van Exel that made it 72-67. But Robert Horry answered with a three-pointer that began a San Antonio barrage of long-range shots, putting the game away.

Over the next five minutes, Hedo Turkoglu and Parker each hit twice from beyond the arc and the Spurs outscored the Warriors 20-6 to go ahead 92-73 with less than four minutes to go.

The Mavericks have also won four of their last five games. They beat Portland, 105-98, on Monday night in the first of a four-game homestand.

Steve Nash finished with 14 points, 12 assists and 10 boards for his first- ever triple-double at American Airlines Center.

Michael Finley added 25 points, while Dirk Nowitzki and Antawn Jamison scored 20 apiece for the Mavericks, who have won four of their last five games. Antoine Walker chipped in with 14 points.

This is the second meeting of the season between the two teams. Dallas posted an 81-78 road win over the Spurs on November 8 behind 20 points from Jamison.

The Spurs have lost two straight to the Mavericks, but have won four of the last five meetings in Dallas.

Dallas is undefeated in five games at home this season and is 5-2 within the Western Conference.

San Antonio is 2-3 on the road and 3-4 against the West.
